Pitsmoor Surgery has partnered with Fir Vale School

Pitsmoor Surgery opened its doors to students from Fir Vale secondary school for work experience.

Ten students met a receptionist, pharmacist, advanced nurse practitioner, care coordinator, healthcare support worker, general practitioner, and a practice nurse.

They got hands on with blood pressure monitors, stethoscopes, and pulse oximeters, learned about illnesses, normal ranges, abnormal readings and what happens to patients next.

Mrs Khan at Fir Vale School said:

“It was a good experience for the students, and they asked some interesting questions. It’s good to get them thinking about future careers within health.”

Fir Vale school was chosen to lead the pilot because the school has a high cultural mix with over 35 languages spoken and over 60% of students are eligible for free school meals. It was a really successful day and the partnership is continuing with regular work experience days planned in the future
