South Yorkshire's health and care workforce provide services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. To support our teams to continue providing excellent care we need to invest in them and our future workforce.

We support our partner organisations via a range of programmes, which support the national ambitions set out in the NHS People Plan.

South Yorkshire Region Education and Careers (SYREC), part of the South Yorkshire Integrated Care System (ICS), was formed in 2017 to support our health and social care partners access quality assured education and training. SYREC has helped to increase effectiveness, create opportunities for skill development, and give staff and managers the confidence to deliver a better standard of care. In 2021, SYREC became to umbrella brand for the whole of the SY ICS Workforce family.

Our sector-leading programmes and services enhance the skills of the support workforce - who together comprise more than 40% of the country’s healthcare workers - helping to increase their effectiveness, create opportunities for skill development and give staff and managers the confidence to deliver a better standard of care.

The Care Certificate is an agreed set of standards that define the knowledge, skills and behaviours expected of specific job roles in the health and social care sectors.

Primary Care transformation, Project ECHO, ACP programme, Care Navigators

Nursing associate is a new role within the nursing team. Nursing associates work with healthcare support workers and registered nurses to deliver care for patients and the public. It is also a stepping stone to becoming a registered nurse. (Health Careers, 2020).
