The Schools’ Engagement Team for NHS (Health) and Social Care Careers has had the opportunity to work with 89 Y9 students from across secondary schools in South Yorkshire and with learners from Sheaf Training. This was part of the excellent better learners, better workers programme – giving students across South Yorkshire the opportunities to experience the world of work, raise their aspirations and develop their skills helping them identify and work towards their future careers.

The students, working in groups, were asked to produce a poster or digital campaign to send a clear health message to a target audience of their choice and to evidence how they had managed their project and developed their skills.

The results were amazing including a Tik Tok campaign about vaccinations, videos talking about mental health, posters about body image, mental health poetry, animations based on real life events and effects of the cost- of- living crisis, music videos telling young people about sexually transmitted infections and resources to help students reduce exam stress and more.. Some of these products will be used in local health promotion campaigns.

We celebrated the students’ achievements at the Cutlers’ Hall in Sheffield City Centre on the 1st of March, supported by Sarah Ward Director of Ambition Unlimited CIC and Dame Julie Kenny – Master Cutler.
