Trainee Nursing Associates (tNA)

Nursing homes frequently experience challenges in accessing structured educational programmes, however using video conferencing technology, Project ECHO facilitates the delivery of a free and tailored programme of training and education direct from a Hub to multiple sites where there is a training and education need. This then creates a community of practice that supports service delivery, sharing of knowledge and support to staff in underserved areas.

SYREC have facilitated a partnership between the ECHO (Extension of Community Health Outcomes) project (led by St Luke’s Hospice) and the places of Doncaster and Bassetlaw. The intention is to deliver end of life care training that ECHO currently delivers to care homes across the city of Sheffield, domiciliary care services and soon to be delivered to Yorkshire Ambulance Service.

The support from the partners –NHS  Doncaster CCG, NHS Bassetlaw CCG, Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS FT, Rotherham, Doncaster and South Humber (RDaSH) NHS FT and Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council  - has ensured key personnel will be funded and trained to promote the sustainability of the programme and will allow the places of Doncaster and Bassetlaw to deliver other education topics to any number of learners in the future. We are looking at launching the programme early 2019, with up to 20 care homes in the initial pilot.
